There are many types of stocks an individual investor can consider for their personal portfolio. Some of them include:

- Income Stocks, which are stocks, typically issued by large, established companies with stable earnings, that pay higher-than-average dividends over a sustained period of time
- Value Stocks, which are stock in companies that have good earnings and growth potential but whose stock prices do not reflect their potential
- ... and others, such as small-cap, defensive, cyclical, gold, and treasury stocks.
An individual's investments should fit his or her personal age and tolerance for risk.
